3rd Annual Girls #VanWinefest Weekend!

3rd Annual Girls VanWinefest Weekend!
For the last three years, the girls venture out and we take on the Vancouver International Wine Festival and the 180 wineries that partake in “the tasting room”. The first year I attended there were two ladies, this year we were 9 lovely ladies.  In previous years we’ve participated in the evening session, however for the second year we joined the matinee session.

As you walk in the door, you receive your wine glass and you are on your way. There are only a select number of tickets to each of the sessions and with 180 vintners from 16 countries, there really are no lineups… well the only lineup is for Nesters snacks filled of bread, cheese and deli meat, but it goes quickly. Yes, you will likely want to take in a few nibbles along the way. Everyone loves a make shift charcuterie platter to go with your wines.
This year we celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday as the featured country of the festival. So many wines, yet so little time. I’m lucky if I managed to taste 1/4 of the wineries.
My favorites this year;

Nk’Mip (BC) Talon

Osoyoos LaRose (BC) Petales d’Osoyoos

Bodega Catena (Argentina) Malbec

Louis Bernard (France)
Maybe next year needs to be a three day event as 2018 feature countries are Portugal and Spain …. how can I say no to that. Mark your calendar friends!

Helpful hints:

1.) arrive early. The doors open precisely at the time notes on your ticket. There will be a lineup and you won’t want to waste tasting time waiting to get in.

2.)  check you coat. It’s only $2.00 but trust me you will remove it within minutes and do not want to carry it around.

3.) do not wear light colour anything. Dark clothes encouraged. Many people will be spitting and some maybe some spilling.
